Rumson-Fair Haven Students Once Again Head Back to School

After a relaxing few months of summer, RFH students are mostly enthusiastic about the upcoming school year.

September came quicker than ever, and it’s that time of year again: back to school. Although a year of hard work and studying is ahead, (RFH) students look forward to new challenges and getting back into the swing of things after a relaxing summer.

“It’s hard not to be excited for the new school year but it is just as hard to leave the summer behind,” said Brigid Shutskey, a sophomore at RFH, while she enjoyed her last full day of summer.

Some students are a little nervous to leave the lazy days of summer behind and reengage in their rigorous schedules, while others are purely enthusiastic about the upcoming school year.

Ben Sherman, a junior at RFH says, “I’m excited but kind of nervous for junior year because it will be a good challenge.”

Frankie Delaney, incoming freshman shares similar feelings on the upcoming year: “I’m kind of nervous because I don’t know my way around the school yet, but I am excited to be in high school and meet new people.”

It is no secret that both freshman and junior years of high school are the two most stressful, but they are also perhaps the most rewarding. Freshman year presents brand new opportunities as students transition into high school, while junior year finally marks students as upperclassmen, and gives them more freedom in choosing what classes they want to take.

Holly Oberle, now a senior at RFH, as well as the president of the Student Government Association is purely excited for the school year ahead, “I cannot wait for school to start because I am really excited for my senior year and to see everyone again!” She adds enthusiastically, “!”

Senior year is traditionally known as the best year of high school, and for a lot of good reasons. Officially as the oldest students in the school, there are many more privileges as well as responsibilities given to seniors. It is also a year during which futures are determined; college applications are sent in and by the middle of the year, many students know where they will be attending.

Steph Szakats, also a senior at RFH says, "I am excited for senior year: I can’t wait to be the ‘top dog’ and for college to be so soon. The fun comes with a lot of responsibility and work though too.”

All in all, there are not too many students that are completely dreading going back to school. It’s a time for fresh starts and new opportunities. For freshman, four fun years at RFH lie ahead, for sophomores, a fun transition year is to be looked forward to, for juniors, good challenges await, and for seniors, the last year of high school begins, bringing along a lot more responsibilities and of course fun.

Best of luck to all RFH students as they start the new school year.
