Raising Funds for Education in Rumson

Proceeds from the event benefit programs and technology at Deane-Porter, Forrestdale

The Rumson Education Foundation (REF) will hold its 17th annual “Celebration for Education” on Friday, Nov. 16 at Beacon Hill Country Club, Atlantic Highlands.

“The Celebration for Education is a fun evening to help the Rumson Education Foundation raise much needed funds for our schools and students,” REF President Katie Shanley said.

Held from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., this year's fundraiser will include both live and silent auctions of items donated by parents, teachers and Rumson area residents and businesses. The evening will also feature a wine toss, butler style hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, buffet dinner and live music.

The “Celebration for Education” is the REF’s major fundraiser, the proceeds of which contribute to grants for both Deane-Porter and Forestdale schools.

Since its inception 17 years ago, the REF has awarded over $1.5 million in such grants for programs that contribute to a higher level of education for all students in Rumson’s primary and secondary schools.

To date, the REF has been successful in funding a state of the art science lab, classroom libraries, a portable stage and sound equipment, defibrillators and CPR training for teachers, SMART board computers and other new computer technologies.

These enhancements were all made possible by turning donations into funding for grant requests. Many of these programs and equipment/technological device donations would not be funded through the traditional school budget.

Tickets to the REF “Celebration for Education” are $100 in advance and $125 for walk-ins.

To purchase tickets, please visit www.rumsonedfoundation.org or mail payment to Lanae Herman, 54 Wardell Avenue, Rumson, NJ 07760.
