RFH Seniors Set Sail: Prom 2011

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Class of 2011 celebrate where they've been and where they're going with a night to remember at sea.

On May 26th, the graduating class of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH)  attended prom on a small cruise ship, the Cornucopia Princess. After traveling in yellow buses from their school to the Atlantic Highlands Marina, the students boarded the ship around 7:30 pm and sailed to Manhattan and back.

"I think the real reason it was fun was because we were with our friends having a great time," said Katie Grabowy, RFH Senior.

This was the second year the Senior Prom was set on the Cornucopia Princess.  Unlike other schools, RFH holds two separate proms for the 11th and 12th graders in order to widen options and cut costs.  It also increased the level of satisfaction for the Seniors, for the prom-at-sea plan called for "cruise formal" attire and a more casual atmosphere.

The boat set the contrast between the Class of 2011's Junior and Senior Prom experiences.  The first floor of the boat had tables, while the second floor had more seating with food and a DJ. The third floor had a dance floor and a live band  that "played a lot of Motown,  which was so fun!" said RFH Senior Gianna Maita.  The top of the boat was used for gazing at the skyline, sunset and stars.

The prom ended around 11:15 p.m. when the boat docked and many of the students went off to the post prom hosted back at RFH.  The featured a variety of games, prizes, and a mind reader to entertain the Seniors as their special night came to a close.  A four-day weekend followed the Thursday night festivities, giving the Seniors a much deserved celebratory break before facing graduation, college and the future.
