RFH Powder Puff: Football, Fundraising & Fun

While most Bulldog fans are foaming at the mouth waiting for the this Saturday night, there is a special way they can cool their football fever ahead of time.

This year’s (RFH) Powder Puff Football game will be played on Thursday, December 1 (postponed from November 17) beginning at 6:00 p.m. when the Freshman girls take on challengers from the Sophomore class. At 7:00 p.m., the Juniors will go head-to-head against the Seniors.

Held under the lights in Borden Stadium and sponsored by the RFH Student Government Association and the Health Club, this year’s fundraiser will benefit Lin’s Linens and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. All proceeds from the event will go to these two organizations. T-shirts will be sold and the Dawg House concession stand will be open with refreshments.

The annual event is hosted by two school clubs: The Health Club lead by their advisor Linda Nill, the School Nurse, and the Student Government Association (SGA) led by their advisor Yannell Maglione. The two organizations came together for a common mission: increase spirit and raise awareness and funds for important causes in the RFH community.

"All proceeds made from T-shirt sales, food, and admission will go to Juvenile Diabetes and Lin's Linens organizations. It is a popular event at RFH, and many people get involved," said SGA President Holly Oberle. "It is one of the great ways RFH helps out others in our community, and it should be a really fun evening!"

November is Diabetes Awareness month, and when students in the Health Club approached Nill to recommend naming the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a beneficiary, she was deeply supportive. Nill said, “The average rate of occurrence of juvenile diabetes is 1 in 1000 and in our community it is higher, and the students are responding to the needs of their peers and community at large.”

The game is coached by a few teachers and RFH football players, and the players look forward to your support in the stands. Entrance fees and purchases through the night help to bring the school clubs funds which they hope exceed previous years’ totals.
