RFH Football One Step Closer to State Championship

The Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs win in the first round of the state playoffs by defeating the Rahway Indians at home at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School last Friday night.

RFH fans bundled up in their blackest Bulldog clothing and came to the Two River Times field at to cheer their football team on to victory.

The packed stands kept the wind at bay for most of the game, but even so it was a bit windy and chilly in the stands.  The football weather seemed to have no effect on the team as they played all business as usual.

Local Bulldog fans have come to expect games that begin by getting their hearts racing and blood pressure reaching all-time heights.

Friday night’s battle for a place in the State Semi-Finals was no exception. The Dawgs kept the fans on the edges of their seats during most of the first half with the score remaining 0-0 until Jack Miles got his hands on the ball. Readers that have been following the Dawgs all season know that a Jack Miles carry ends in a touchdown and this week was no exception. With this touchdown, the Dawgs entered the locker room at half time ahead by 6.

The Indians may have come to Rumson on the warpath, but found they were no match for the brave Bulldogs. RFH started the second half with the defense shaking up the Indians and causing them to snap the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety. The D held the Indians to minus-8 rushing yards for the game. The third quarter rampage of scoring began with Connor Riley and continued with defensive lineman, Michael Alonzo and Conor Walsh. By the end of the third quarter, the score was RFH 29-Rahway 0.
