RFH Bulldogs Beat the Buccaneers in the Battle of Ridge Road

The Varsity Football Team brought home the trophy after a shut-out on Saturday afternoon.

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Bulldogs had the Battle neatly in hand for most of the game Saturday, September 24th.

This year the battle took place at Red Bank Regional High School on Ridge Road in Little Silver, the RBR Bucs home field. For the second week in a row, the RFH varsity football team has refused to allow their opponents to score.  In the meantime, the RFH offense has put on a mighty display of talent and weapons and scored at will to take the treasured Battle of Ridge Road Trophy.

Final Score RFH 30 - RBR 0.

The Buccaneers entered the stadium with much fanfare which included a band marching and flags waving. The Dawgs entered with quiet confidence. The big maroon Buccaneer cannons at the entrance to the facility were silenced on this day by a dogged defense as the Buccaneers failed to put any points on the board.

The RFH offense made good use of their possesions. In the first quarter, Danny Roberto completed a pass to Michael Moralle that set up a 5-yard touchdown by Jack Miles. In the second quarter, the Dawgs scored twice. First, they went on a 90 yard drive ending with an incredible catch by Blake Potter in the end zone to bring the score to 14-0. Next, they used a combination of plays including passes, quarterback keeper, and rushing right up the middle for a touchdown by Connor Riley to end the half with a score of 21-0.

The second half began with much of the same only this time, included a sack in the end zone for a safety by Jack Eisenstadt and added Michael Nociolo and Nick Castellano to the offensive arsenal.

In spite of the horribly warm and humid conditions at midday for football, the Bulldogs and their fans fared well. Glen Wise ensured the Dawg Pound was packed and dressed in all white as the RFH Marching Band played some rousing tunes pre-game and throughout to help keep the wind in the RFH sails as the Buccaneers sat dead in the water. It was a clear victory and the Dawgs enjoyed the spoils of this battle and brought the prize back east down Ridge Road to .

RFH Head Coach, Shane Fallon had this to say after the victory, “Our offensive and defensive lines controlled the game. Danny Roberto was very efficient at quarterback. Travis Clark did a great job stopping the RBR run game and our defensive line applied pressure on the Bucs QB, sacking him 9 times. It was a great performance for the Bulldogs."

"We now focus on Matawan, another very good team,” said Fallon  So the Bulldogs set their sights on another kind of battle, a dog fight, as they face the Matawan Huskies in a rematch of the Central Jersey Group II State Championship 2010 game. This time they will play on their home turf at the Two River Times Field at Borden Stadium on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 7pm.
