Registration Open for Annual Hoops for Horizons Tournament

With a 50k fund raising goal, the program is looking for the community to get involved.

Community members of all ages are invited to slam dunk and dribble in the Hoops for Horizons 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.

The money raised from this two-day tournament benefits the Horizons Student Enrichment Program.

Paul Campanella, Rumson Country Day School (RCDS) athletics director and Hoops for Horizons tournament coordinator, said, “We ask that the public join us as players or spectators. It’s a great way to have fun, get some exercise and score for a wonderful local cause.”

For over 15 years, students from Red Bank and Long Branch have come to the Rumson Country Day School to be a part of the Horizons Program, which is a six-week academic, cultural and recreational enrichment program offered during the summers. The program is offered to students from a diverse, low-income population in grades K-8. Click here to learn more about the program.

According to Horizons representatives, the basketball event raises funds to pay for almost all of the teachers for the Summer Enrichment Program, and without it they would not be able to serve the children.

Set for Friday, March 9th and Saturday, March 10th, the event is open to the community with teams participating from across Monmouth County.

The fun begins at 3:30 PM on Friday afternoon with the 5th grade division, followed by the high school/adults under 40 bracket in the early evening. The tournament will conclude the next day with the middle school and adult 40+ divisions.

There will be chance auctions, a bake sale and snacks for purchase with all money raised to benefit Horizons’ 2012 summer program and the 100+ local students who attend.
