R-FH Students Paint the School Pink with Breast Cancer Awareness Events

The high school students are spearheading fundraising events for breast cancer awareness and Meridian Health's Paint the Town Pink campaign

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) students are schooling peers and people in the community in an annual show of support in the pink for the sake of breast cancer awareness.

May is the month of the Paint the Town Pink campaign, sponsored by Meridian Health/Riverview Medical Center, to raise breast cancer awareness and fund mammograms for under- and uninsured women.

And, as it has since the event's inception in 2006, R-FH will do its part by lighting its signature tower pink and decorating the front of the school in the motif during the third week in May.

But, "while the pink decor may be pleasing to the eye, the events taking place inside the school building are also at the heart of the R-FH community's support for the cause," a release from the school said.

Student Government Association President Shelby Sabat and Class of 2013 President Amy Littleson have worked with the R-FH Health Club and the Club's Advisor, R-FH School Nurse Linda Nill, to spearhead a number of activities taking place at the high school from May 20 to 24.

For example, the Student Government Association is creating pink ribbon pins that faculty members will wear to show Pink Pride. The R-FH Health Club will be selling T-shirts and Pink Pride hats. Pink wristbands will be available for purchase thanks to the efforts of the R-FH Class of 2013. The Class of 2014 will participate as well by hosting a bake sale.

And in response to Meridian's call-out for people to pink out their cars for the cause as well, the R-FH Class of 2013 and members of the National Honor Society will be hosting a car painting fundraiser in which R-FH seniors can have their cars decorated with washable markers.

All of the funds raised by the activities at R-FH will be donated to Riverview Medical Center's Paint the Town Pink campaign.
