Local High School Alumna Performing in South Pacific at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center

Patty McCarron plays a Bali Hai Islander who is in love with Lt. Joe Cable, played by Austin Ryan, another RFH grad.

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Tower Players Spring Musical of 2010 was Fiddler on the Roof, and played Tevye opposite Patty McCarron, who played his wife Golde. That year, the Tower Players were nominated for 12 Basie Awards and garnered nine including “Best Musical.”

This would not be the last time the duo would play love interests.

On July 13, Rumson’s Patty McCarron opened as Liat, Bloody Mary’s daughter, in South Pacific at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center and is once again performing opposite Austin Ryan. They are far from the personas of the elderly Tevye and Golde, but they are portraying the young lovers with the same remarkable stage presence and talent that they exhibited in Fiddler.

McCarron has a strong performance resume on her own. She also performed in the 2009 Spring Musical Production of The Wiz and won the Basie Award for the “Best Supporting Actress in a Musical” for her amazing elasticity and dance expertise as the Scarecrow. She has been performing in local community productions ever since she graduated with the Class of 2010.

Patty McCarron is a remarkable dancer, and she served as Dance Captain for this production at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center. Musical Director Dr. Jeffery Unger talked about how much RFH actors youth and enthusiasm added to the show. He said, “They’re so young, and they’re so good!”

Participation in the RFH Tower Players under the leadership of Mrs. Suzanne Sweeney has given many young performers the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in an atmosphere where the students and staff support their efforts and encourage them in each and every endeavor, allowing them to quickly transition to community and professional theater settings.

The Axelrod Performing Arts Center production of South Pacific is enhanced by talented RFH graduates for a short time. Don’t miss it!
