Food & Fun at RFH's La Nuit Francophone

RFH's French National Honors Society hosts their second annual "Francophone Night", a night of foreign food, music, and culture.

The French National Honors Society hosted their second annual “Nuit Francophone” in the (RFH) cafeteria.

Friends, family, and French enthusiasts gathered view presentations about French speaking countries, listen to foreign music, and enjoy delicious ethnic homemade food.

The main objective of the French National Honors Society is to cultivate curiosity in Francophone culture and to help stimulate interest in the French language within the community.

Tessa Liberi, a senior member of the society says, “I enjoy being a part of French National Honors Society because you learn things outside the classroom and you can really immerse yourself in not only the language, but the culture as well.”

“La Nuit Francophone” directly translates to “The Night of French Speaking”, particularly referring to French speaking countries. The Society broke up into groups and created presentations for about ten different French speaking countries including Morocco, Algeria, Tahiti, the Ivory Coast, Canada, Switzerland, and of course, France.

When asked if she enjoyed planning Francophone Night, senior member, and President of the society, Stephanie Szakats said, “I really did! Francophone Night is like my baby…I worked so really hard on it and I’m so proud of the way it turned out.”

Dughan Ahemovic, another senior member also enjoyed working on Francophone Night. He says “It was a lot of fun learning more about cultures of French speaking countries and making some different food.

Last year’s society debuted the first Nuit Francophone, setting the standards high for the students in this year’s society. After learning last year that the food was a major crowd pleaser, this year’s group of students kicked it up a notch and made sure there was more than enough tasty food to go around.

When asked what his favorite part of Nuit Francophone was, Dillon Kean, a Senior at RFH, said, “There’s a really diverse food selection, and it’s all really good.”

Another attendee and a Freshman at RFH, Nicole Buckley agrees. She said, “I like trying new, different types of food, and when I saw that French National Honors Society was doing this, it sounded really fun…and the food is so good!”

Although the dishes were a major highlight, the foreign music as well as the creative tri-fold posters contributed to a stimulating and fascinating atmosphere.

“I was surprised to learn how many countries actually have French as their national language! And how many countries in addition to those, are members of the Francophone Society,” said Patricia Szakats of Rumson, “It was really interesting!”

The night ended up being extremely successful, bringing in a revenue of just over $200 or so, entertaining almost fifty people.

Madame Rebecca Assassi, a French teacher at RFH, as well as the advisor of French National Honors Society said, “I was very proud of the dedication and work my students put it to the event. It was a great evening."
