Save for a string of reluctant approvals, not much was said about Fair Haven Schools Superintendent Kathleen Cronin’s pending retirement at last night’s Board of Education meeting.
Smiling, grumbling and saying they hated to accept it, each in his or her own way, eight board members (with Katy Badt Frissora absent) approved of Cronin retiring effective June 30, 2013.
Cronin, a Middletown resident who was hired as the Fair Haven schools’ top administrator in December of 2007, has nearly 25 years of experience and earned a salary of roughly $150,100, according to state records.

When first hired, her salary was $145,000 through the 2009 school year, according to her contract. The salary increased to $150,075 for the 2009-10 school year and went up based on negotiations between Cronin and the board thereafter, the contract added.
Before becoming superintendent in Fair Haven, Cronin spent 20 years in the Rumson schools as principal of both Deane-Porter and Forrestdale schools, curriculum supervisor for the district and as an English teacher at Forrestdale.

As for her plans post-retirement, Cronin did not make any comments about it at the meeting. But, Patch will follow-up with a separate interview with Cronin.
No plans for her replacement or new superintendent search were discussed.
