Deane-Porter Principal Richard Karas has resigned after a decade with the Rumson School District, effective July 1.
Once school let out today in Rumson and parents sorted through their children's backpacks, news spread and emails were sent to Patch saying that letters went home today notifying all of Karas' impending departure.
One parent, who did not want to be identified, said that the "texts are flying" over the news. Another reported that, according to the letter sent home, Karas will be taking a position in Jackson.
There was no indication that the sudden resignation was tied to any sort of conflict or controversy.
Administration was not available for comment as of press time.
The letter will be posted as soon as Patch obtains a copy.
According to the Rumson School District Web site, Karas, first came to the Rumson district in 2003 as assistant principal of Forrestdale school.
Prior to that, "he taught eighth grade science in Freehold Township for four years," his bio on the site said. "Karas also taught 7th and 8th grade science in Denville Township for five years. He has both a BA and a master's degree in secondary science education from Rutgers University. In 2003, he received his second master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University."
