Dawgs Roll Over One More Opponent on the Road to the States

The Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs win State Semi-finals by defeating the Delaware Valley Terriers at home last Friday night.

Friday night, the (RFH) Bulldog Football team entered Borden Stadium through a tunnel of their little RFH Pop Warner fans and went straight to work.

On their first possession, the offense set the tone and drove down the field in six plays, ending with a Connor Riley 26 yard touchdown. Next, the defense forced the Terriers to punt from their own 41 yard line. Riley picked the ball up and ran right back into the end zone bringing the score to RFH 14 – Del Val 0 with more than 7 minutes left in the first quarter.

This set the tone for the night and had the fans breathing a little easier in their seats. Of course, this is football and the Terriers have been known for second half comebacks so no one took the lead for granted.

The Dawg Pound once again planned a Blackout. Fans seem to come from all over to see this match up and choose their favorite dog to cheer on to victory and an appearance in the state championship.

In the second quarter, Conor Walsh ran it in for another touchdown. Danny Roberto connected with Blake Potter for a few big passes and finally threw a touchdown pass to Jake Clapp to bring the score to 28-0 nearing the half.  The defense held the Terriers to just two first downs in the first half.

During the third quarter, the Dawgs continued to roll over the Terriers when David DeCamp ran the ball for another Dawg touchdown. By this time, RFH had the Terriers sitting up and begging for the scoring to end.  The Dawgs showed a little mercy and threw the Terriers a bone when the JV players took the field in the fourth quarter.  The Terriers narrowly avoided a shut out by scoring once late in the game.

Final Score:  RFH 35 – Del Val 7

This win marks a record for Rumson-Fair Haven as no football team has gone 10-0 in a season before.

Head Coach Shane Fallon remarked on the win, “We are very proud of our 10-0 record. We won the offensive, defensive, and special teams battle in a convincing 35-7 win over Delaware Valley. This 2011 team is the first in R-FH school history to win ten football games in a season."

Fallon said that the team is excited and ready for states. "To earn the right to go back to a State Final is something that our players and coaching staff have worked very hard for. We face an excellent Red Bank Catholic team on Friday night followed up by a showdown with Matawan for the Central Jersey Group 2 State Title," he said.

The State final will be played Saturday, December 3rd at 7pm at Rutgers
University. Football fans have two very exciting games to watch in the next two weeks.
