Rumson's New Fire Chief and More

No changes on governing body or with professional appointments.

It was a day of tradition, ceremony and special recognition at Rumson's New Year's Day reorganization.

In addition to Scott Paterson being sworn in as the borough's new police chief, Rumson EMS Capt. Max Ross was thanked for his service in 2012 and sworn in as captain again for 2013.

Outgoing Rumson Fire Department Chief Paul Halligan was then recognized for his service to the borough and a new fire chief, James Fenn, was sworn in, as was Robert Halligan as assistant chief.

Mayor John Ekdahl and council also gave out awards for "extraordinary work during Hurricane Sandy" to EMS, the Rumson Fire Company and Oceanic Hook & Ladder No. 1 as well as police.

Ekdahl said that the fire department answered 175 calls during Sandy, double the average annual amount.

On the governing body, councilmen Mark E. Rubin and Frank Shanley were both re-elected to new terms, and Rubin was sworn in. Shanley was absent. 

All municipal professionals, such as the borough administrator, attorney, engineer, were re-appointed by resolution. 

Brian Miller was appointed as full-time police dispatcher for the borough.
