Rumson Council Primary Run All GOP

One incumbent and one newcomer

Two familiar Rumson names are on the registry for the primary elections in June — one an incumbent and the other a newcomer to the race.

With two seats up for grabs on the six-member Borough Council, Republican incumbent Joseph Hemphill, of Bingham Avenue, is running for his third full term. And newcomer Republican Laura Atwell, of Dogwood Lane, is running for her first term, Mayor John Ekdahl said.

Incumbent Joan P. DeVoe, whose term is up this year, as is Hemphill's, has not registered to run.

No challenging Democrats have registered for the primary either, so Hemphill and Atwell are running unopposed.

Currently on the Rumson Borough Council are: Shaun Brokerick and Benjamin Day Jr., with terms ending in 2014; Mark E. Rubin and Frank Shanley, whose terms end in 2015; and DeVoe and Hemphill.
