Rumson Mayor's Post-Sandy Update

A Rumson update on the Hurricane Sandy aftermath from Mayor John Ekdahl:

There are an estimated 10,000 tons of material (exclusive of leaves) on borough streets.

To date we have picked up 3,500 tons, with the help of three outside contractors. This is rather extraordinary for the amount of time the effort has been underway.

Concerning FEMA claims ... Residents should contact Borough Hall (732-842-3300) to set up individual appointments, apply directly online or call 800-621-3362.

Small Business Association (SBA) disaster loan information is available at Rumson Borough Hall or you can call 800-488-5323.

The curfew for Rumson has been lifted since power has been restored to 99 percent of residents. Residents seeking relief for reconstruction in the flood- prone areas will soon be able to build to new heights once storm data is reviewed by council and the Planning Board. Information should be available early this week.

All permitting fees related to Sandy will be waived through the year's end. Please be mindful when placing cut trees, limbs, brush and debris at the curb to maintain a passable thoroughfare for our residents.

For particularly heavy loads, please leave some behind and replace once the crews have come through.
