Rumson Mayor Ekdahl: Power Likely Back Thursday or Friday

Low-lying areas with heavy damage may take longer to be restored

The following message from Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl, as posted on the borough's website, http://www.rumsonnj.gov/

"It has been 7 days since Hurricane Sandy blasted through Rumson, causing catastrophic damage to many area homes and properties. The entire town remains without power and the Rumson Police, DPW, Fire Departments, OEM and EMS have been working overtime to maintain order, provide direction and assistance to residents and make roads safe for passage.

"JCP&L has advised that power will likely be restored to most of Rumson by Thursday or Friday. Low lying areas that suffered severe damage will take significantly longer to have power restored for inspection.

"The Rumson community is to be applauded for its concerted volunteer efforts from the very beginning of the storm. Residents have been generously providing warm food and beverages to emergency workers and displaced residents.

"Volunteers have organized a tremendous open 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Residents can find all manner of assistance, food and clothing, as well as charging outlets and information needed for insurance and FEMA claims. Stop in for some warmth, a bite to eat and some help in planning your own recovery.
