Rumson Gets NJDOT Aid for Road Repairs

Avenue of Two Rivers project gets funding

The NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is paving the way to funding for the revamp of one Rumson road.

Rumson's Avenue of Two Rivers road project is getting a boost of $160,000 in the state funding that was doled out to 36 municipalities in Monmouth County, a released statement from the NJDOT said.

Avenue of Two Rivers, which is mostly residential, is also home to some businesses, including the Fromagerie, and the Oceanic Library.

Statewide, 406 grants worth $86.5 million were distributed to municipalities under the DOT's municipal aid and transportation enhancements programs.

The bulk of the 406 grants, or 377 totaling $76.2 million, went to the more traditional municipal infrastructure repair aid; and, another 29 grants, totaling $10.3 million, were funneled to help eligible municipalities advance quality of life and/or pedestrian and bicycle safety road projects

"These grants enable municipalities to stretch their resources and advance important roadway projects and other safety and quality-of-life improvements that benefit all who share the road, including pedestrians and bicyclists,” said NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson in the release.

Under the DOT aid program parameters, when a contract is awarded by a town to complete the work, 75 percent of the funds are released. The remaining 25 percent is given upon completion of the work.

A total of 660 applications were submitted for this round of state-funded local aid, the release added.
