Report: Fair Haven Mayor to Resign in February

Mayor Michael Halfacre will start a new job as director of the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Feb. 6 in Trenton, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Fair Haven is in need of a new Mayor.

Mayor Michael Halfacre will announce his resignation on Monday, January 23 at the regular council meeting, according to a report by the Asbury Park Press.

According to the article, Halfacre will resign as of Feb. 3 and become the director of the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Feb. 6 in Trenton.

Halfacre was first elected to mayor in 2006 and re-elected to a second four-year term in 2010.

In 2009, Halfacre ran for the Republican nomination to run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J. He withdrew from the race after party support went to Scott Sipprelle, a businessman from Princeton.

Halfacre told Patch in 2010 after his re-election that he was proud of being the mayor of his hometown and what he had accomplished in that role so far. "We've made changes in Fair Haven that have led to us spending less money and lowering taxes while increasing and improving our infrastructure and providing more programming for the kids in town," he said.

In addition to his resignation as mayor, Halfacre will also have to resign his posts as municipal prosecutor in Little Silver and Rumson, according to the APP.

As for his replacement, the local Republican Committee will select three candidates, whose names will be forwarded to the council, which will select one to replace his empty seat.
