Parents Can Model An Alcohol-Free Lifestyle To Kids This Weekend

Adults are asked to considering abstaining from alcohol April 4-6.

Young people who see their parents and other adults abstain from drinking alcohol this weekend -- and still enjoying life as usual -- can be positive role, says the Fair Haven Borough Council.

At a recent meeting the governing body proclaimed April 4-6 an annual Alcohol-Free Weekend to  support the work of the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School and the Rumson and Fair Haven Community Alliance.

Every April since 1987, communities are encouraged to participate in Alcohol Awareness Month to bring attention to the problems of alcohol abuse. Alcohol is a major factor in motor vehicle crashes, crimes and suicides, which are some of the leading causes of death among youth, authorities say.
