UPDATE: Lieutenant Governor Denies New Christie Administration Allegations

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno denied allegations Monday that she threatened to withhold Hurricane Sandy relief money unless a politically connected real estate deal was fast-tracked. 

Democratic Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer dropped the bombshell on a national television appearance Saturday, saying she said she did not immediately come forward because she did not think anyone would believe her. 

Guadagno, in Union Beach on Monday, an area still struggling to recover from the 2013 storm, denied the allegation and called the mayor's claim "illogical."

"Mayor Zimmer's version of our conversation in May 2013 is not only false, but is illogical and does not withstand scrutiny when all of the facts are examined," Guadagno said "Any suggestion that Sandy funds were tied to the approval of any project in New Jersey is completely false."

But Zimmer stands by her story and has said she turned over her personal journal, where she had detailed the conversation with Guadagno, to the U.S. attorney.

"As they pursue this investigation, I will provide any requested information and testify under oath about the facts of what happened when the lieutenant governor came to Hoboken and told me that Sandy aid would be contingent on moving forward with a private development project," Zimmer said in a statement.

Just as Zimmer made her claim, another Democratic mayor whose town was affected by Sandy made similar allegations regarding the Christie administration.

Adam Schneider, mayor of the shore town of Long Branch, told the Washington Post he believed his town was favored because Schneider, a Democrat, endorsed Christie’s re-election bid.

Christie spent the weekend on a fundraising blitz in Florida in his capacity as the head of the chairman of the Republican Governors Association.

Christie is scheduled for an all-day inauguration fete Tuesday, ending with a party on Ellis Island.
