Smoking Ban, Sidewalk Cafes on Fair Haven's Agenda

By Elaine Van Develde

If you want to catch up on Fair Haven issues, Monday night is the night, since, for the summer, there will only be one meeting a month.

There's a full agenda for workshop meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall on River Road.

There will be an Eagle Scout award presentation Robert Michael Chan. We'll have to see what his project was all about.

Then the potential smoking ban in public parks is up for debate once again. Last time, it was the recommendation of the borough's Parks and Recreation Committee that a ban be put in place. Council members had some disagreements with particulars, though. We'll see how they've worked those kinks out.

There's also a "Generator Ordinance" on the table. Hmmm. That probably has something to do with storm season and thinking ahead on how to handle, borough-wide, the growing popularity of people using generators and the safety guidelines required. Just a guess, though.

And the McCarter Park and Pond project dedicated to enhancing recreation venues is also up for discussion, as is the nearby River Road Streetscape East project, along with a bid award.

There are also two ordinances up for public hearing and adoption: one, which has been revised, referencing guidelines for seasonal sidewalk cafes and restaurants; and another involving the outdoor display of goods.
