Fair Haven Mayor: 'We're Ready' for Hurricane Sandy

"We're ready."

Fair Haven Mayor Ben Lucarelli said Monday morning the borough is monitoring Hurricane Sandy's path, is in communication with JCP&L, the county and state and otherwise prepared to respond to any incidents in the borough.

"We've done our best. We have an excellent OEM (Office of Emergency Management) and DPW," Lucarelli said.

The mayor said Sandy's winds and rain have not yet caused any major incidents, although a utility pole went down at about 7:30 a.m. today on Oak Place. JCP&L reports less than five residents without power although Lucarelli said the borough does not yet know the exact impact of the downed pole to residents.

Fair Haven is not calling for evacuations, unlike and beyond. "The first place of refuge is your home," Lucarelli said. "Don't travel unless you have to."

The mayor praised communication with the governor's office, which sought a federal emergency declaration for New Jersey from President Obama on Sunday. That request was granted this morning, opening up FEMA funds.

He also praised the efforts of the Office of Emergency Management to work with his office, the police and fire departments to plan for potential impacts.

"Right now we're fine."
