Election Day in Rumson and Fair Haven

A round-up of what to expect on the ballots and where to go to vote for Election Day 2011.

The polls officially open in Rumson and Fair Haven at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8 and close at 8:00 p.m.

In Rumson, Mayor John Ekdahl, Republican, is running for Mayor unopposed. There are two open Council seats in the borough. Shaun Broderick, Republican and Benjamin Day, Republican, are incumbents looking to serve another term. Their only challenger is Democrat Phillip Wagner. 

Rumson Borough is split into 6 election districts. Polling places are as follows:

  • District 1 & 2: , 80 East River Road
  • District 3 & 6: , Forrest Avenue
  • District 4 & 5: , Hance and Ridge Roads

In Fair Haven, there are two open council seats as well. Jerome Koch, Republican, is an incumbent running for re-election. Susan A. Sorensen, Republican, is running for the open seat left void by Councilman Banahan.

Also on the ballot...

The Monmouth County Freeholder Race features six candidates vying for two seats on the board. Incumbents Lillian Burry, Republican, and Amy Mallet, a Democrat from Fair Haven, are seeking another three-year term on the board. Other candidates include Tom Markowski, independent, Patrick Noble, secretary of the Socialist Party of New Jersey, Gary Rich, Republican, and William Shea, Republican. The District 13 General Assembly Race has six candidates on the ballot, including two Republican incumbents. Statewide redistricting has added new faces to the area, but the main issues remain the same. Candidates for this race include incumbent Amy H. Handlin, Republican, incumbent Declan O'Scanlon, Republican, Kevin M. Lavan, Democrat, Patrick Short, Democrat, Stephen Boracchia, Constitution Party, Karen Anne Zaletel, Green Party, and Mac Dara F. Four people running in the District 13 Legislative Race on Nov. 8 are facing a formidable incumbent, state Senator Joseph Kyrillos, Jr. Running against him is Democrat Christopher G. Cullen, and three independents: Karen Anne Zalatel of Keep Monmouth Green; Stephen J. Boracchia of the Constitution Party, and MacDara F. Lyden of Jobs-Economy-Honesty.
