Eagle Scout Recognized at Fair Haven Council Meeting

Mayor Halfacre read a proclamation to the scout who completed a rain barrel project at Borough Hall last winter.

Karr Thomas Mullen reached the highest level in Boy Scouts of America and was recognized as an Eagle Scout at the on September 26, 2011.

“Less than 2 percent of scouts actually achieve this award,” said Mayor Halfacre during his reading of the proclamation to Mullen. “I am amazed at how many Eagle Scouts Fair Haven turns out. It is a really great honor.”

Mullen completed a for the borough, which helped contribute to this honor. Residents of Fair Haven watched last fall and winter as Mullen, of Troop 67 (Red Bank Charter) of the Boy Scouts of America, worked on a project to educate the community about recycling water for use in their gardens and yards.

The installation of a rain barrel was used as a demonstration of how such a basic idea can produce a greater effect not just for consumers of water, but for the environment as a whole including the Navesink River. The Environmental Commission then sold rain barrels to the community for use on their own homes.
