At the March 13, Rumson Council meeting, present Council members voted to adopt an ordinance that will allow the council to move money around into different accounts and decide which appropriations can and can not be raised if need be.

When a question from the public arose about what exactly the ordinance was, Thomas S. Rogers, Rumson Municipal Clerk, explained that the ordinance is a way to help the town.

“It has nothing to do with the 2% Governor’s cap. It actually has to do with appropriations and what we can raise and what we can’t,” explained Rogers. “The 2% tax levee cap actually rules over it, but if the Governor changes his requirements going forward it is important to have this cap carried forward to help us. It will not have any effect this year. Next year our taxes are going to go up .7%, which is roughly $20 per million dollars per household.”

The next Rumson Council Meeting will be hold on Tuesday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m.
