Woman Surprises Memorial Day Burglar, Police Say

Alleged burglar fled the scene after the homeowner's return.

A Red Bank woman stepped inside her Shrewsbury Avenue home on Memorial Day to find a burglary in progress, police said.

Javier Coba-Soriano, 29, of Red Bank allegedly entered the residence through an unlocked window. When the homeowner returned at 10:25 p.m., Coba-Soriano fled the scene, Capt. Darren McConnell said in a press release.

After investigating the burglary, Sgt. Michael Frazee found Coba-Soriano and took him into custody, according to McConnell.

Coba-Soriano was charged with one count of burglary and remanded to Monmouth County Correctional Institution. His bail was set at $50,000 with no option to post 10 percent of the bond.
