UPDATE: Driver Charged with DWI in 3-Car Crash on Leonardville Road

The crash occurred near 12th Street around 9 p.m. Friday night. More charges may be pending.

UPDATE June 3 at 10:20 a.m.

Middletown Township police say a Hazlet man was under the influence during the crash on Leonardville Road near 12th Street Friday night. 

Mark Gorski, 51, was charged with the driving while intoxicate and additional charges related to the accident may be pending, police said.

According the prelimary police investigation, Gorski was traveling westbound on Leonardville Road on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe when a 2013 Ford Mustang driven by Jacqueline Weidimeyer, 23, of Belford made a left turn in front of Gorski, causing him to hit her on the driver's side. 

After the impact, Gorski’s vehicle continued west on Leonardville Road, crossing over into the oncoming lane and striking a Hyundi SUV being operated by Barbra Vilanova of Leonardo.

Gorski’s vehicle then flipped onto its side and caught fire. 

As a result of the crash, Weidimeyer had to be extricated from her vehicle by emergency crews and was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center (JSMC) in Neptune where she remains in stable condition. 

Vilanova was also transported to JSMC by ambulance and was held overnight as a result of her injuries.

Gorski was transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank and was treated for injuries. He was charged by police with driving while intoxicated. 

The crash is being investigated by Cpl. Darrin Simon and Cpl. Nick Caprio from the Departments Traffic & Safety Bureau.

Two drivers were taken to Riverview Hospital in Red Bank and a third driver was flown by helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center's trauma unit in Neptune following a multi-vehicle crash on Leonardville Road Friday night, around 9 p.m.

The accident occurred near 12th Street, on a 40 mph stretch of Leonardville Rd. in a residential section of Belford.  

Police, fire fighters and EMS workers converged on the scene.

The area around the accident was blocked off, from 9th Street to Sandpiper, from Ocean Avenue to Leonardville Rd. 

Police Detective Lt. Stephen Dollinger said the crash is being investigated by the Middletown Police Traffic Bureau and could not yet comment on the names of the people involved or any potential charges.
