School Psychologist Suspended After Marijuana Arrest

Michele Thompson was charged with distribution of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child.

In the school district next door to Fair Haven's, Little Silver's school psychologist was suspended by the district following an arrest last month for alleged distribution of marijuana and child endangerment.

Michele J. Thompson, 45, Ocean Park Avenue, Bradley Beach was charged Jan. 21 with distribution of marijuana and several counts of child endangerment following an investigation by Bradley Beach Police, according to APP.com. Harold A. Sturm, 50, also of Ocean Park Avenue in Bradley Beach, was also charged.

According to Little Silver Board of Education President Christian Smith, the board "became aware of a situation in which an employee was charged with alleged criminal activity." Thompson was suspended by the district shortly after the arrest.

"Because this is a personnel matter, we cannot comment or provide details other than that the individual has been suspended while we gather information regarding the allegations," Smith said.

He added that the alleged activity did not involve any student in the Little Silver school district.

The board approved hiring Helaine Conti as a part-time replacement psychologist at its Feb. 7 meeting at $325 per day, up to three days per week, effective Feb. 8.

Hot dang...$325 per day? If I didn't have a felony marijuana conviction, I would apply. I wrote about the great times I had in the marijuana business: The book: Shoulda Robbed a Bank I would be honored by your review. And, I wish Ms. Thompson and Mr. Sturm a very speedy and complete exoneration. To arrest American citizens for involvement with a plant is ludicrous....what has happened to our 'free' country?

We all know that someday, soon, this prohibition will end. I spent 5 years in Federal Prison for a marijuana offense. The memorable day that I met with the parole panel, I asked, "When pot becomes legal, what will my 5 years spent in prison have meant?" Their response, "That is a very philosophical question. We don't deal with philosophy in this office." Case closed...go back to your cell.

When was the last time anyone gave all the teachers a breathalyzer while on the job? I would much rather have an enlightened mind around my kids than the drunks I see teaching!

@ Paul Hurteau... Excellent point.

I just meant the teachers I know around me, I was not speaking about the school mentioned in the story!

Who cares if the dude was smoking some dope. Get over it already.

As the parent of one of their victims, I couldn't care less that they were getting high; the problem is that they were getting children high. All the children are 14 years old and just out of 8th grade. Alcohol is legal but I wouldn't be getting children drunk. Would you?
Heartsick Mom February 27, 2013 at 07:10 PM
But do you want any of those teachers sharing their alcohol or weed with 14 year olds? Particularly not their own?
Paul Hurteau February 27, 2013 at 07:45 PM
Heartsick Mom,, I would rather they just do their job... was this guy doing his job or giving drugs to kids. If you are going to terminate someone or suspend them for smoking Marijuana anywhere then you should also look at teachers that are on various medications are not in an environment where they could cause harm. How many bus drivers do we see caught drunk driving. Here are teachers that are harming kids for real and getting for the most part ZERO punishment. http://www.wnd.com/2012/11/39783 Protect your kids from these types of teachers.

Dear Paul Hurteau, Michele Thompson and her husband, Harold "Andy" Sturm, were getting 14 year old kids high, repeatedly over a period of months. Two of whom were not their own.

I would rather Marijuana than what these teachers were doing: http://www.wnd.com/2012/11/39783/
