Rumson Police Assist in Hunt for Burglar
Local K-9 units called to the scene for a search after the suspect fled into nearby woods.
assisted Little Silver, Red Bank and Shrewsbury officers in a hunt for an alleged burglar on Grant Place in Little Silver Sunday when a neighbor called to report seeing a man break a window and enter an unoccupied home there.
According to Little Silver Chief Daniel Shaffery, patrol units were dispatched at 11:50 a.m. on June 17 to investigate a report that a burglary was in progress.
A neighbor reported that a black male wearing jeans, a gray sweatshirt and carrying a backpack had broken the window of a side door five to 10 minutes earlier and entered the house.

The suspect fled into a "heavily wooded area" nearby after being confronted, said Shaffery.
A perimeter was established, he added, and police K-9 units from Long Branch and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office were deployed into the wooded area in an unsuccessful effort to locate the suspect.
