Rumson Accident Being Investigated

Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson has confirmed that investigation of the accident that occurred on Wednesday at the corner of River Road and Bingham Avenue has been turned over to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, which, as a matter of police protocol, is called in for serious and fatal accidents.

The accident's location information, previously obtained through a report on NJ.com, the chief said, was incorrect in stating that the location of the incident was the Ridge Road and Bingham Avenue intersection.

Not at liberty to offer names, condition updates or whether or not the driver of the vehicle that struck her will be charged at this point, Patterson confirmed that the victim was a woman who was walking her dog near Crazees ice cream parlor at about 12:30 p.m. when she was struck by the car.

He said she was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center's Trauma Unit via medevac helicopter from the athletic field at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School.
