Police: Man Fled From Cops Through Neighbors' Yards

Artis Edwards faces a resisting arrest charge.

When an area man allegedly decided to run from the long arm of the law, he didn't get any farther than his neighbors' back yards before it reached out and cuffed him on a resisting arrest charge.

When Patrolman James DePonte tried to arrest Artis Edwards, 50, of West Sunset Avenue, Red Bank, on an outstanding Red Bank warrant Sunday afternoon, Edwards allegedly took off up the north side of his street and then through several back yards on the south side.

Despite the fact that a uniformed police officer shouted, "Police. You are under arrest," Edwards ran, the complaint warrant said.
