Police Identify Driver in Rumson Accident

Accident is under investigation


Rumson police have identified the teen who they say was driving alone in the car that crashed into the foundation of a Rumson Road home, landing in the basement, early Sunday morning.

Police are investigating the serious accident that they say occurred on Sunday, Dec. 8, at about 3:45 a.m. The driver, Ethan Danzi, 18, of Rumson, was headed southbound on Hance Road when his car left the roadway and crashed into the home on Rumson Road at the end of Hance, Rumson Police Capt. Jeffrey Nixon said.

Danzi was extricated from the car and flown by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he remains. According to hospital information, he is in stable condition.

Whether or not speed or alcohol were factors has not yet been determined, Nixon said, adding that "the accident is still under investigation."

The investigation is being handled by Rumson Police Patrolman Daniel J. Campanella along with the Monmouth County SCART (Serious Collision Accident Response Team).

Fire and EMS units that responded to the scene were: Rumson, Fair Haven, Sea Bright, Little Silver, Asbury Park and MONOC, a released statement from Rumson police said.

The following law enforcement agencies assisted Rumson at the scene: Fair Haven, Little Silver and Monmouth County SCART.
