A surfer who was in distress nearby, off the Long Branch shoreline, was rescued by emergency crews on Friday afternoon.

The Long Branch Police, U.S. Coast Guard and State Police were dispatched to Seven Presidents Park beach just before 1 p.m. after the male surfer was spotted waving for help in the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard also sent a boat from the Manasquan Inlet Station and Monmouth County Aviation units were called to scene.

The surfer was reportedly 150 yards out in rough water with 8- to 9-foot waves.
