Middletown Man Charged in TD Bank Robbery

The robbery of the Harmony Road branch took place Sunday morning.

Authorities have reported a bank robbery in Middletown.

A suspect in custody in connection with the robbery of a Middletown TD Bank branch on Harmony Road Sunday morning, Deputy First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Richard Incremona confirmed.

Middletown resident Steven Carton, 25, allegedly demanded cash from a bank teller shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday. The employee pressed an internal alarm system, which alerted the Middletown Township Police Department to the robbery, Incremona said.

Carton allegedly robbed the bank of $400, which was subsequently recovered by authorities, according to Incremona. No one was injured during the robbery, he said.

Following an investigation by the Middletown Towship Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Bureau, Carton was taken into custody and charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree theft, according to Incremona.

Carton is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $10,000 bail with an option to be released upon posting a 10 percent bond.
