Robert Hanna, 43, of Colts Neck, was arrested in Red Bank this week for allegedly stealing more than $200 from the "poor box" at St. James Church on Broad Street, police said.
Hanna is accused of stealing from St. James Church between May and August, according to the police report. The allegedly stolen money belonged to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which assists those in need.
Police say Hanna confessed to the Red Bank theft in a videotaped interview.
This is the second charge for Hanna for allegedly stealing from "poor boxes" in churches. He is also charged with stealing from St. Catharine's Church, Holmdel, in April.
Hanna is being held in Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $1,000 bail, with no 10 percent option.
