New Red Bank Police Chief an RFH Grad

In front of a crowd of family, friends, officials and police from several surrounding towns, Darren McConnell, a 1987 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School graduate, was sworn in as Red Bank's new police chief.

McConnell succeeds Chief Steve McCarthy, who passed away in September. McCarthy's family was present in a special show if support for McConnell, 44, who has been with the Red Bank force since the age of 19. Raised in Rumson, McConnell began his career on the Red Bank force as a patrolman and rose through the ranks to his most recent position as captain of the department.

Among those in the crowd showing support was First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Richard Incremona, also an RFH grad. "Wow, it's an RFH alumni gathering," said Incremona as he congratulated McConnell after the swearing-in.

Also in attendance was Fair Haven Police Chief Darryl Breckenridge, another RFH alumni and native Fair Havenite whose mother was a crossing guard for the Fair Haven schools.

Patch will be featuring a video if the event. Stay tuned.

Congrats, Chief!
