Hazlet crowned champs in annual Monmouth County Fireman's Competition

Some of the bravest first responders from around the county descended on Colts Neck Fire Company 1 on Saturday for the annual Monmouth County Fireman's Competition.

Competing in five different events, the firefighters showed off the skills they use on a daily basis serving their hometown communities.

In the hose laying event it was Freehold Boro finishing in the top spot while Shrewsbury and Hazlet finished second and third. Jamesburg won the hose and ladder event followed by Morganville and Shrewsbury in the second discipline of the day.

Hazlet proved to be the most capable department in the busted Hose event and were followed by Freehold Township Independent Fire Company and the squad from Shewsbury in third.

Representatives from the East Freehold Fire Company took first place in water polo, followed by their competitors from Hazlet with Farmingdale bringing home a third place finish.

Rounding out the day's events was the Ladies Bucket Brigade, which was won by Holmdel. Wrapping up a strong day, the Shrewsbury crew finished in second place followed by Freehold Boro in third.

By the time all the points had been counted the squad from Hazlet came out on top as the all-around champions. Freehold Boro took second place on the day with Shrewsbury rounding out the top three.
