Area Man Pulled from Water Pronounced Dead

A Belford man was pronounced dead at Riverview Medical Center following his drowning.

A 46-year-old Belford resident drowned off a Middletown beach Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from the Middletown Township Police Department.

After being administered CPR en route to the hospital, he was pronounced dead at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. 

At approximately 1:47 p.m. Middletown police responded to a report of a possible drowning at Ideal Beach.

Upon arrival, Lt. William Brunt and Cpl. Robert McNair found Belford resident Charles Henshaw, 46, in the water. The officers pulled him to shore.

CPR was performed on the way to the hospital, said Bob Pfleger, public information Officer Township of Middletown EMS Department.

Henshaw was treated by the Monoc Paramedics and the Port Monmouth First Aid Squad and was transported to Riverview, according to the police statement.

He was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. as a result of the drowning.
