An area man faces aggravated assault and drug charges after he allegedly injured a police officer last week.
Police charge that Matthew S. Kassardy, 37, of Red Bank, assaulted Middletown Police Patrolman Stephen Greenwood on Dec. 10 and made terroristic threats against the officer by threatening violence.
During the incident, Kassardy is alleged to have briefly escaped police custody and resisted arrest, according to the complaint signed by Greenwood.
Kassardy also is charged with possessing five Oxycodone pills. The pills were blue in color and marked “K9,” which authorities said identifies them as the drug.
A charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license also was issued, the complaint reads.
A judge set Kassardy’s bail at a total of $110,000, no 10 percent option. He remains in custody at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility, according to court records.
