Alleged Rumson Car Thief Indicted

The three alleged thefts took place in September on West River Road.

A Newark man has been indicted on charges stemming from an alleged conspiracy of luxury car thefts in Rumson in September.

Jimmy Nunez, 32, of 31 Van Vechten St., Newark, is facing seven counts of conspiracy, burglary and theft of moveable property charges related to the September incidents, according to the indictment signed by Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter Warshaw.

The indictment alleges that on or about Sept. 5, Nunez conspired to steal cars, tire rims and cash from “67th, 72nd and 100th West River Road, Rumson.” He and others then allegedly drove those vehicles to Newark and the surrounding area, it added.

The cars were valued at $75,000 or more each. In one of the instances, in addition to the car, cash and tire rims were allegedly stolen as well.

The conspiracy and burglary charges represent third-degree crimes. The theft of moveable property is a second-degree offense.

An indictment is not a conviction. It indicates only that a grand jury has determined it has enough evidence to move forward to prosecution.
