Success Tip for the Day: Put Yourself Back on the List

How many times do you make to do lists, grocery lists, honey "do" lists only to put yourself last on the list? Start putting you and your dreams first again.

I have the best job in the world.

Yesterday, I had the most awesome meeting with a client - so much so, I had pep in my step the rest of the day.  Why was it so rewarding? Well, in a nutshell, because she gets it.

I don't know if the planets were aligned just so or the laws of attraction were in full force, but all I can say is that both of us had major "aha" moments during that hour and a half spent together.

Oprah would be so proud.

We talked about kids, the future she desires, what she has learned from her journey, but what resonated most of all with me was this tiny little sentence she said that had much power in its punch.

"I want to put myself back on the list."

Not a laundry list, Acme shopping list, not the dusty "Honey Do List" that sits in the junk drawer - but the list that most of us have never made. It's the “You Priority List” where you are number one.

Emotionally speaking, this girl should win the Nobel Peace Prize.

I thought, "Geez, I have never heard it put that way before." Sure, I tell my clients to put themselves first in a rather vague sense and as I preach the word with all of my "life-lessony" blogs about making yourself happy and so forth.

However, it was as if this client got out her yellow Sharpy highlighter, flipped through her Cliff Notes of life and got right to the point.

I love that.

So, we continued to talk. And, I have to admit, there are moments during my sessions when I am like a proud mama bear and this was one of them. Really. No roaring involved (this time!) but I could have done just that - one big, loud, grizzly bear, top of the lungs happy roar to celebrate. (just sayin'..)

The best part was, my ability to be part of and to my witness this superstar client weed through all the muck in her life, stay steady when the ground had shifted, to find her place in this world. And better yet, to find purpose in her life and to finally on herself back on her own list.

For today, take the time to think about putting yourself above the grocery shopping, dirty clothes, deadlines at work, carpools and all the rest of the junk that falls in between.  Make your physical, spiritual, mental and emotional well-being top priority.

Put yourself back on the list. And if you never had one, for goodness sake - MAKE ONE!

Thank you to my wonderful client to whom I can affectionately call my friend. She has taught me a thing or two about prioritizing. In the end, I know she will make the world a better place.

I couldn't be prouder.

ROAR! ;-)

Keep the faith,

Patti
