Obituary: Rumson Native Robert A. "Bobby" Desmond, 75

Army Veteran and former member of Manalapan Police Department

Robert A. “Bobby” Desmond, 75, a Rumson native and a resident of Howell Township who was a longtime police officer, passed away at home on Monday, Dec. 31. 

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Signal Corps on Governors Island, New York.  Bobby retired from the Manalapan Police Department in 1994.  He was also a life member of P.B.A. Local 229 and the Blue Knights XV.  

Bobby is survived by: two sons, Joseph Desmond and his wife, Jennifer of Lumberton and Michael Desmond and his wife, Angela of Seattle, WA; a daughter, Virginia Koehler and her husband, Robert of Shrewsbury; eight grandchildren; a great grandson; a brother, James Desmond and his wife, Jackie of Howell; two sisters, Patricia Burtt of Middletown and Carol Clark of Old Bridge; and his former wife, Ann Desmond of Chesapeake, VA.

Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 3.
