Rumsonite Rose Marass Dies at 89

Services are slated for Saturday.


Longtime Rumson resident Rose Marass died peacefully on Nov. 30 at 89.

Born in South Amboy, Rose grew up in Red Bank before moving to Rumson in 1948.

She worked at Newberry's and the Strand Theater, both in Red Bank, Bendix Corp. in Eatontown and her brother's deli, Chris's Deli in the River Plaza section of Middletown.

She dedicated her life to being a homemaker and a mother and was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Red Bank.

"Any who knew Rosie will know that she had a big heart, an infectious laugh and that she adored Engelbert Humperdink," her obituary said. "She was his biggest fan. She loved all the family around when she would make her holiday dinners. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her."

Rose was predeceased by: her parents, Vincent and Marie DeFilippo; and brothers, Anthony, Frank and Peter DeFilippo.

She is survived by: her son, Robert Marass and wife Edith, of Rumson; her daughter, Rita Kellegher and husband Michael, of Neptune City; her brother, Chris DeFilippo, of River Plaza; and sisters, Lucy Dyal of Tampa, FL and Mary Jo Green, of Morganville, along with many nieces and nephews.

Rose is also survived by the loves of her life, her grandchildren: Kevin Boden and his wife Tiffany, Michelle Solitro and her husband George, Kristin Boden, Matthew Marass and Daniel Boden.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering in celebration of her life from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, with a service beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank.
