Local Fireman, Mechanic, Bird Carver Dies at 84

A memorial service for lifelong Fair Haven resident Carl Becker will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12 at the Thompson Memorial Home.

Carl R. Becker, 84, a lifelong resident of Fair Haven, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013.

Carl's family owned and operated Oscar Becker and Sons in Fair Haven. For 10 years, Carl was a mechanic for Acme Amusement in Red Bank. Carl was a well-known bird carver. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and NJ Water Fowlers. For more than 60 years, he was a member of the Fair Haven Fire Department and for more than 55 years he was a member of the Red Bank Masonic Lodge. Carl was also proudly an Eagle Scout.

Carl was predeceased by his brother, Oscar Jr. in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ramona; son Karl "Bob", Jr. and wife Pamela of Red Bank; daughter Liza and husband Robert Barton of Herndon, VA.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12 at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Fair Haven Fire Department, 635 River Road, Fair Haven, NJ 07704.
