As we enter this New Year, many will make resolutions to better their life in some way. Perhaps you’ll exercise more, budget better or quit smoking. Or maybe you’ll resolve, as we have, to continue helping Sandy victims get back on their feet. If you’d like to join us, just pull out your smartphone next time you see one of our 3-D floor graphics installed throughout the state.
The floor graphic, currently in selected malls and train stations, depicts the complex network of water mains and pipes hidden beneath our feet. By taking a photograph from the right angle, the floor graphic morphs into a 3-D illusion that appears to be a real trench dug into the ground. New Jersey American Water “workers” are shown upgrading the pipe infrastructure. The 3-D helps bring to mind, our water infrastructure, which is usually out of sight.
For every picture you snap and upload to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #WeDigNJ, we’ll donate $5 to Governor Chris Christie’s Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. You can also post the picture on our Facebook page, and you’ll have given crucial help to families in need. And with all the New Jerseyans and smartphones out there, just imagine how it adds up!
In a way, recovering from Sandy and addressing our aging infrastructure speak to the same basic idea; that we’re all in this together. When we rebuild our lives and livelihoods after a disaster, we do so with the sametenacity and foresight as when we invest in water infrastructure. In the end, it creates a better world for all of us.
