Riverview Medical Center Makes Critical Donation to Lunch Break

Riverview Medical Center proudly donated an automatic external defibrillator (AED) to Lunch Break as part of a long-standing partnership between the two organizations to equip Lunch Break with a potentially life-saving piece of equipment in the event of a cardiovascular emergency.

An automatic external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that can diagnose a potentially life threatening cardiac event and treat symptoms through defibrillation.  Thanks to today’s technology AEDs are designed to be used in community settings while emergency help is on the way.

“The onsite presence of an automatic external defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death in the event a person experiences a sudden cardiac episode,” says Joseph Miller, Ph.D, chief operating officer for Riverview.  “While we hope they (the staff at Lunch Break) never have to use it, it is a valuable piece of equipment to have on site.”

In addition to the equipment, Riverview staff will provide training of the device to the staff and volunteers at Lunch Break.

“Riverview has been a proud supporter of Lunch Break since its inception in 1983, which has been a mutual partnership as both Riverview and Lunch Break share a commitment to meet the needs of the community we serve, particularly those that are underserved,” says Timothy J.
