Free CPR Training to be Offered at RFH on April 30

In partnership with Meridian Health, the Melita family of Fair Haven and the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Health Club are teaming up to provide free training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to area parents. The event is being held in memory of Robert Melita, a 2009 graduate of RFH.

The training will be provided by health care professionals and will be held in the RFH Auditorium on Wednesday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. Parents and guardians of RFH students are especially encouraged to attend, since the homeroom with the highest number of registered adults with receive a free breakfast.

"Charlie and Beth Melita's hearts' desire is that no family should have to endure the heartbreak of losing a child," stated an announcement sent to the RFH parent community by Health Club Advisor Linda Roman. "Join them as they lead RFH in creating a community of life savers."

Statistics have shown that providing non-medical professionals with the skills necessary for performing CPR results can double or even triple the survival rate of those who suffer an episode of cardiac arrest. 

According to Meridian Health, episodes of cardiac arrest are more common than most people realize, and can occur at any age. Four out of every five episodes occur in a residence, which means that the lives saved through CPR training are often those of a family member or close friend.
