It's Fair Haven PTA Harvest Fest Time!

Have you seen all of the scarecrows in Fair Haven? A few years ago the Fair Haven PTA started using them to advertize their annual Harvest Fest fund raiser, and we saw a few dozen of them around town. Each year they’ve added more and more of them, and this year it seems like they’re everywhere!

Each scarecrow has the name of a family or business that are supporting the event, and you’ve probably seen lots of names you know. This year’s Harvest Fest will be held next Saturday, October 5th, from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Knollwood School, and I hope you’ll be there to see everything that’s going on.

It’s great to live in a town with great schools like Fair Haven. If you have children who go to either Sickles School or Knollwood School, you already know what a great education they’re getting. If you’re thinking of moving to Fair Haven, or if you’re not familiar with the Fair Haven school system, all you have to do is to look at the “report cards” that the New Jersey Department of Education gives to the two schools. The official name that the state uses for each school is, “NJ School Performance Report”, and you can find the here: http://education.state.nj.us/pr/nav.php?c=25;d=1440.

When you click on “Knollwood” or “Viola L. Sickles” you’ll find both a School Narrative and a District Narrative, both of which give excellent overviews of the school and the district. If you click on the name of the school itself you’ll get a list of three target areas: Academic Achievement, College and Career Readiness and Student Growth. For each of these there’s a Peer Rank (percentile), a Statewide Rank (percentile) and a number for the Percent of Targets Met. As you’ll see, the Fair Haven school performance reports are very good.

Fair Haven is fortunate indeed to have both great schools and supportive parents. Hope to see you at the Harvest Fest next weekend!
