Rumson Country Day's Holiday Celebration of Literary Classics & More

The Rumson Country Day School's Parent Council kicked off the holiday season by celebrating literary classics at its annual book fair.

The three-day event, held in Riker Hall's Skirkanich Commons, began on Dec. 2 with a family reading night, according to a release. The reading night featured RCDS' Storytime for Children during which there were readings from classic children's books, such as Crockett Johnson's Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Headmaster Chad Small.

The headmaster also did readings for children of all ages from other classics, such as Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown, Frederick, by Leo Leonni, and The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, the release said.

"We want to inspire children to read more and enjoy classic literature," Parent Council President Jen Crowell ('88) said. "Parent Council is thrilled to play a role in generating that excitement and encourage students to discover the delights of a good book."

* The Book Fair is a joint effort by two Parent Council committees: the Book Fair Committee, headed by Sarah Andreski, chair, and Mary Ryan, co-chair; and the Library Committee, headed by Sarah Weiss, chair, and Sarah Cosgrove, co-chair. The proceeds of the event are to benefit the RCDS Library.
